Camping Si-Es-An, located in the beautiful Reestdal area, is the perfect place for a peaceful nature getaway. You can pitch your tent on their spacious campsite or rent out one of their unique accommodations. Picture being awakened by birdsong surrounded by greenery and you get the gist!

We are well into our holiday season, but if you are still looking for the perfect staycay we know just the place. Especially for our workaholics looking for that much-needed R&R! Si-Es-An is the motherland for rest and relaxation. What’s more? It’s also a welcoming campsite for families!

Arrival

Unfortunately, sometimes our travel experiences don’t always go smoothly. That was definitely the case while trying to get to Balkbrug. Originally it was already quite the long route – three hours – but as luck may have it one of our trains was canceled and another was delayed. This turned our total journey time into a SIX HOUR TRIP. That’s equivalent to flying to New York City from here! Our advice? DRIVE. We caught a ride home, and it knocked the journey down to two hours.

Location

This lovely family-friendly campsite is located within the vicinity of the beautiful nature reserve Het Reestdal. Just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the village of Balkbrug. Here you’ll find a variety of beautiful landscapes making it the perfect place for walking or cycling. Why not take in the sights and sounds of the wooded areas, waters, and beautiful grounds? Or spend a day in the nearby ancient Hanseatic cities.

Accommodations

They offer a wide variety of accommodations to easily suit the need of any visitor! Here are some of our favorites:

For those looking to take a break – like us after our long trip 😉 – we have to recommend you choose one of their rental accommodations. You can do what we did and choose the Skycabin and sleep elevated among the trees! Plus the interior is very modern, comfortably fits four, has a dining area, kitchen and comes with all the essential utilities you need for a comfortable stay.

For our families, I think you’d find a better choice in one of their Happy Bee Lodges. These comfortably fit five and are equipped with two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen with dishwasher, cozy sitting area, and covered terrace with furniture.

For larger parties look no further than their seven-person Safari tents. These glamping-style tents even come with a play corner with a slide. They have a kitchen with a dishwasher, an attractive living room, and a covered veranda with furniture. Plus it even has air conditioning, which also functions as heating. Perfect for any season!

Finally, for our true camping lovers, they have amazingly spacious areas to pitch your tents or park your campers. Not only are they big, but they are surrounded by green fields and lovely foliage.

Seems like a lot already? There’s so much more. To see everything they have you can visit here.

Surroundings

This is your chance to really get to know the Northeastern part of the Netherlands! We encourage you to take a day trip to one of the ancient Hanseatic cities. Kampen, Deventer, and Zwolle (where my in-laws are from) are definitely worth a visit for culture lovers. Here you can wander through the cobblestone streets and enjoy the sights of historic buildings, have a drink at the squares with terraces, and most of all get a glimpse back into the Middle Ages. Furthermore, you can also easily bike to nearby villages Hardenberg Slagharen, Ommen, and Hoogeveen!

Facilities

Just like their accommodations, their list of facilities is VAST. I can’t touch on every single one of them in this article, but I can share with you my favorites!

One of the most exciting facilities is the kids club. This is perfect if your child is a fan of crafts, having fun, making friends, playing sports, or doing theatre – I honestly can’t see any child not liking this! The children’s entertainment doesn’t stop there. They also have a park, giant trampoline, and animation program.

Don’t worry adults, they also have a place for us to hang too! Kiki and I spent a lot of our time there ourselves! At their restaurant, Brasserie de Boerderij, we ate, had delicious wine, and even joined in on a fun game of BINGO! Unfortunately, we weren’t lucky enough to win anything. It really wasn’t our day.

Next morning

The next morning we woke up to the calming sounds of nature and a much-welcomed knock at our door! That’s right, they DELIVER breakfast to your cabin personally, and it was delicious. We opted to sit outside and fuel up before the long (but not as long) journey home. Overall, we highly recommend you take full advantage of the wide variety of activities and facilities they offer and stay as long as you possibly can!
