Hotel Valkenburg by Mercure – New name, same cool concept
It’s hard to believe this stylish hotel, located in the middle of Valkenburg, was once home to an old brewery – but it was! Hotel Valkenburg by Mercure’s suave design, modern facilities, and lively location will leave you wanting for nothing throughout your holiday in Limburg.
Previously known as Black Label Hotels, this stylish holiday escape is located in the middle of charming local amenities and beautiful nature. It is the perfect place to stay during a visit to Valkenburg. The hotel combines raw elements and natural materials with a sleek and modern design.
Valkenburg
As someone who personally gets a kick out of nature and history, I was pleased to learn that Valkenburg is well known for its tourist attractions and hilly countryside. This city’s main goal is to emphasize the natural and historical beauty of the town. Many restoration projects are in place, making it quite the destination for anyone who admires history. Furthermore, if you’re an outdoor enthusiast, Valkenburg is quite famous for its cycling events and walks through its former marl quarries, locally referred to as caves.
Fun fact: Valkenburg is host to more than a million overnight stays a year. Talk about a touristic hotspot!
The Hotel
As you can imagine, a city so rich with tourism also needs to have an equally exceptional hospitality industry. Upon doing our research, the place that stood out above the rest was Hotel Valkenburg by Mercure. Found directly on the Geul, this establishment invited us to explore the surroundings throughout the day and find rest and recuperation with them at night.
The hotel offered us a discounted package to visit the Christmas Market located in the local caves! Their package gave us the opportunity to explore the city and enjoy 3-course meals at their state-of-the-art restaurant, RUW. We love a hotel that goes above and beyond to make sure its guests have an experience to remember.
The Room
Thanks to its former life as a brewery, this luxury hotel is spacious with a raw interior and unique setup. All of their rooms called, Style Comfort Rooms, feature a refreshing shower, television, coffee maker, and beautiful view. I especially loved the simplistic wall art that features a bicycle. This was particularly fitting considering Valkenburg is well known for its cycling!
The lobby
In the lobby, you’ll find a comfortable lounge area along with their restaurant, RUW. This is a great place to completely relax with a cocktail or beer from one of their nine taps. Furthermore, their culinary mission is based around young and enthusiastic catering professionals, who happily take care of your breakfast, lunch, and dinner needs. The menu contains exquisite dishes along with shared bites for anyone a little less hungry.
3-course dinner
If you opt for the culinary package like we did, not only will you get a welcome drink of prosecco upon arrival, but you’ll also be invited to a 3-course dinner and buffet breakfast at their restaurant, RUW! This was a particularly delightful experience during our trip, particularly because the food was Michelin star worthy. Kirsten and I went for the fish and meat options and every dish was delicious. Even if you are just taking a day trip to the city, we recommend you stop in for a cocktail at the bar and a meal from their tasty restaurant.
