Picture this – pastel-colored rooms, a beautifully decorated restaurant, an outdoor covered terrace perfect for any weather, and food that reminds you of a home-cooked meal. Sounds amazing right? Well, that is Stadsherberg Alphen in a nutshell. This lovely little boutique hotel in the heart of Alphen aan den Rijn is worthy enough for anyone’s bucket list.
Simplicity and elegance is a trending theme here in the Netherlands and for good reason. Cutting out the clutter is not only good for our eyes, but also for our souls. Stadsherberg Alphen has mastered this by using simple color palletes and just the right amount of decorations to create that home-away-from-home feeling.
Arrival
This was one of our easiest trips to date! Whether you’re coming from Rotterdam (like us) Utrecht, or Amsterdam, you’ll find that this lovely little area is only a 30-minute drive away. Public transportation is also really simple and the walk from the station is not only short but also quite nice. The town is very easy on the eyes, so why not take a stroll through it?
Location
As mentioned before, Boutique Hotel Stadsherberg Alphen is located in the heart of Alphen aan den Rijn. This is the ideal spot for anyone interested in discovering the watery surroundings and beautiful nature of the Groene Hart of the Netherlands. This environmental gem surrounded by the Randstad (The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Amsterdam) is characterized by its agriculture and nature amidst the cities. Mills, dikes, birds, and Dutch cows are the primary landmarks of this lowland area.
Accommodations
Don’t hesitate to book your reservations in advance because there are only a total of eleven boutique rooms! Although each room has a kingsize hotel bed specially made by Swiss Sense, and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower, sink and toilet, they vary in size.
For couples we recommend you check out the Romantic Comfort Room, a luxury double room with dormer window, old wooden beamed ceilings, and an ensuite bathroom on the 2nd floor.
For families, check out their Family Room. This is their most spacious deluxe room with a double king-size bed and, hidden in a niche, a cozy bunk bed for two children. The room has an ensuite bathroom with both a shower and a bath and a separate toilet, and a large closet with enough storage space for 4 people.
We opted for a Luxurious Double Room! They have a variety of these rooms, each with its own color scheme and located in different parts of the boutique hotel. Check them all out and select the one that appeals to you most. We went for the room with a tan back wall and blue bedding! They also have shades of purple, pink, and green – the choice is all yours.
Restaurant
My stomach is rumbling just thinking about the breakfast and dinner we had! For those not looking for an overnight stay, but a delicious meal, this is the place for you. They serve healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner using organic products from the region. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday they even offer a 3-course dinner, which Kiki and I just had to indulge in. You can see how amazing their food is by simply looking at the photos. I bet you’re salivating already! I know I am.
Packages
Looking for something a little more special? They offer a variety of packages to take your holiday to an entirely new level! As I mentioned before, one they offer year round on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays is their 3-Course Dinner Package. Dinner and breakfast are both served directly to your room! The 3-course dinner comes with good glass of wine and in the morning they provide a delicious breakfast platter with fresh, local products and a nice cup of Illy Coffee. YES PLEASE!
Because we’ve entered into fall and winter is just around the corner, I figured I’d go ahead and share one other very special activity: Christmas At The Inn! Arrangement. On the 24th, 25th, and 26th of December you can join this special celebration that offers a drink in a Christmas atmosphere, a delicious 5-course Christmas dinner with a suitable specially selected wine arrangement, and an extensive Christmas breakfast paired with bubbly wine!
Next morning
After a very productive evening, we fell asleep with our stomachs and hearts full. In the morning before we headed to our next location, we enjoyed an after breakfast coffee on their lovely terrace. The weather was perfect and the town was a wonderful backdrop for our book brainstorming and happy conversations. We enjoyed every moment at this beautiful boutique hotel and can’t wait for the chance to visit it again.
